Field Target Shooting Long Island  NY 5/22/11
Sponsored By Cobra Airguns

Well here in New York the weather is still not greatest it seems that April showers bring May flowers has turned into April and May showers!! It did not rain but it looked like it the hole day.

For this shoot Tom W. picked up the targets in the middle of the week so he could start setting up targets at 7:00. I normally arrive at 8:30 for set up because we can not pick up the hero until 8:00.

This worked out great because all targets were up by the time I made it to the range and we were able to start earlier. We have a lot of shooters coming from other states and have to hit the road before the traffic starts.

The rain might of scared some of the shooters, but I was also told that some are not computer people and I will have to be more vocal about up coming shoots. We only had nine shooters But Greg S. and  Patty made it from BCSA field target club in Kirkwood, NY a 4-1/2 hour drive with out traffic. Some of our members shoot at their matches It was great to share club stories. One thing I like about airguns is good people and Greg (below right)and Patty are perfect example. Greg's squad included Tom H. and

Hans of the A Team (shooting right). Greg had a great day taking first in hunter 48 out of 58 with his custom Marauder top with a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42.

Tom H was shooting his Steyr in WFTF class and took third with 50 out of 58 Tom H
(below)added a new knee riser to his rifle and back on May 15 at EFTCC match took first in WFTF class.

We just add the class this year and I am glad we did even tough there is only three shooters in the class Ray, Hans and Tom. Not to mention the fact that the Highbred Marauders out number Tom's Steyr two to one it is a nice little competition with in a competition. Keep up the great shooting Tom!!

Hans took second in WFTF with his Highbred Marauder toped with a Leupold Comp 35 shooting 51 / 58

Henry (below left), John M. (below)and Tom B. (shooting left)were in one squad together.  John is at this time is our clubs top shooter but I must say Henry has his eye on this honor with his Theopen Rabid-12 in .20 caliber is learning fast, scoring 47/58

Tom B. taking second place in piston class with his Beeman R11 with a score of 40/58. Tom B is looking into a RWS 56, the 56 is a RWS 54 with a target stock when shooting field target in piston class this is the air rifle to shoot having no recoil. It is almost like shooting a PCP

Tony (below)is a perfect example how well you can do with an RWS 54 air rifle. Shooting a 55/58 taking first in piston class (no surprise) but also would have taken first in PCP if he was in that class. Tony and his 54 took second in the regional last year.

  Tom W.
(below right)shooting 33/58 changed it up shooting his Benjamin Discovery and moving back up to 20 ft/lbs class. Last year Tom was shooting WFTF with a Crosman challenger. Tom is a big supporter of field target by going to most of the local states and shooting in their field target club matches. Some shooters don't have the time but Tom makes the time and that's important for keeping the clubs alive.

Ray (above shooting) of the A Team taking first in WFTF class with his Highbred Marauder shooting 56/58 and wining over all score. Ray still has not cleared the great equalizer missing one in lane three. I am not sure if the equalizer is the right name for this lane because it is a standing raised lane that also sways a little. The only one that I know that has cleared the lane is Tony who spends time practicing the standing position.

The last time I shot this lane (above)I only scored 3/6 so maybe we should call it the score killer lane!! I made the range by 8:30 and the members already had the targets up of course I had the drill to mount the Bat targets but as you can see Necessity is the mother of invention and the members got it done. Our 10 lanes are very stretched out a crossed the shooting range. It takes some time to walk from lane one to lane ten, in the beginning I thought this was great it was like walking though a park and it is. But set up, tear down and the over shoot is taking a little more time then we would like don't get me wrong I like it to take the full day for the hole match. The problem is no time at the end to sit and BS and that is important part of the day.  Below is lane one well the archery club cut six

new lanes branching off lane one this will work great because we have six lanes without having to walk very far and this cut off a lot of time and be like being in the park!! With out the long walk and set up

and tear down will go faster. It should give us a least an hour or more and for shooters that have a long drive home this time may put them a head of the traffic and maybe the great day of shooting will be more on their mind when they get home and not the long drive.

Sorry for taking so long for the write up but I have had some situations to deal with. My son Shane shattered his ankle and needs surgery, My daughter Brooke turns sixteen this month to keep cost down we are having it at our house a lot of clean up. Martin disappeared for the week and showed up on Friday to say he was going to Virginia for a while and left a lot of looses ends.

And to top it off GTA airgun forum removed Cobra from their Airgun mall because of lack of return phone calls Martin was told about this and he said he would try to do better. But I must say we only have a two lines for sales and Martin would spend over and hour on the phone with customers and so would Mike, Gabe and myself. Martin was even giving out his company cell phone number and he was getting so many calls he stop answering it. The 800 will ring and ring if each line is busy because we are talking to customers and you are prompted to leave a massage and Brooke checks them all though the day.

We are a family business trying to survive in this economy. As for the emails he was sending them to me at an old email address I do not use. He sent one to Cobra and got a response right a way from Brooke. Removing us from the mall is not a big deal but to trash us is another story when we do the best we can. They have PY in their mall three times as Airgun express, Compasseco and as PY Yes PY is the Wall-mart of airguns but why pick on the little shop we have a lot of happy customers we have done more for airguns in our community then all the web stores combined.

Ok I am done with my rant any one that would like to defend us you can login it is free and do so
 it would be appreciated  http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,13453.0.html
