Researched pellet guns for weeks and settled on the RWS 48 .22 and started researching pricing. Cobra Air had the best price $300.59. This was August of 2008. Don't think you'll find anyone selling at that price, not even Cobra anymore. Anyway, I purchased the rifle for skunk control. Right out of the box, I was popping of soda cans at 35 yards, no problem. Ordered several different pellets with it and found the RWS Super H Point to be most consistant and accurate. After over 1500 shots it is extremely accurate, it surprises me sometimes. Have taken out several squirrels, but hadn't seen a skunk all year...until last week. Spotted him one night, and set up the next evening and waited. Took him out at about 40 yards with a shot through the chest with a Predator Polymag. They're not the most accurate, but when they hit, they are ruthless. Love this rifle, feels good in your hands, sturdy and accurate. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

This is one heavy duty air rifle. This rifle will take rabbit sized game out to 40 yds in .22 caliber. I own three rifles and this is by far the the best one. Buy it you won't be sorry.

I am 5'9" at 175lbs and the gun isn't a problem for me at 8.5lbs and the advertised 36lbs cocking effort. I am using the iron sights to shoot quarter sized groups (Benjamin Diabolo pellets) at 25yds without a bench and the pellets go about 1/3 of an inch (visual guesstimate) into wood. I think this gun would be perfect with upgraded sights, the flip up loading port from the 46, and a "panther" synthetic stock (in my opinion) or urathane clearcoat to protect the wood stock. Great value at $320 shipped, plus a lifetime warranty!

I bought the .22 cal version since everyone said they wished they had the next higher caliber. I suspect the .22 is quieter than the .177 at the slower speed. The gun is not very noisy but will get attention from prey. It is heavy. I suspect the side cocking adds weight over a break barrel. Very powerful and accurate. It cocks on the right hand side which might be awkward for lefties. Puts a pellet completely through a tin can at 50 yds. Wish I had bought the model with cheekpiece and the stock seems a tad short on the 48. I actually like the weight. Feels like a real gun. With side cocking it has no barrel droop and a very positive breech seal with the air supply mechanism. I'm very pleased with the Bushnel banner scope and the 5039 Beeman scope mount. The mount is very easy to adjust although I had to crank it all the way to the elevation stop. The scope is also easy to focus and zoom. On occasion the gun doesn't want to cock properly but hasn't been a problem so far.

RWS 48 Air rifle by Diana Air guns is one of the best in my collection. I chose the .22 cal added a banner scope on top of a 5039 Beeman scope mount what a great combo!! I liked it so much that I pick one up in .25 caliber before they disappeared (discontinued) They both sooo sweet I have problems choosing between them when I go to the rack to grab an air gun. But I have to say the .22 gets most of my attention. For hunting or back yard target with air guns you can not wrong!!!
