field target shooting site in

Thank you to everyone who came to shoot and to support LIFT.

It was again a beautiful day in New York!! we could not ask for better weather. It was cool morning with a little breeze.

Well we started late!! I did not make it to the range till 8:30 an hour behind schedule. The night before my son went to what they call a rave in Brooklyn NY now don't get me wrong there are beautiful places in Brooklyn and where he was seemed to be a nice area. Any way I get a call around 3:30 in the morning from my son he tells me that

some one slashed all four of his tires can I come and pick him and his four friends up. I went to bed at 12:30, Ok now it's 3:30 I leave by 4:00 it is a three hour drive round trip. Needles to say I am back at my home at 6:00 AM and I still have to pick up the hero and targets. So I am rushing around like a lunatic on three hours sleep thinking everyone will be there waiting for the targets.

When I finally reach the range there is only two members there and everyone else was running late. I guess in my favor it was one of those days for most of us. I was not really worried about starting late because on the Field Target green forum the people that drive the farthest were not going to make the match. All I can say is not only did the A Team make the 2 1/2 hour drive so did Hector and Veronica with a 1 1/2 hour drive. Ray and Lurie were on vacation and added LIFT to their vacation time wow they even shoot on vacation now that's dedication. Then of course a

shooter from BCSA field target club a 4 1/2 hour drive. Greg S came. I would like to Thank You and your wife Pat for coming. We did not get a chance to talk but that could have been a good thing since I was running on no sleep and with scattered brain coffee jitters it was hard to settle down and relax. Greg was matched up with Tom W (far  right) and started the lanes earlier then the rest, so Greg and Pat could head back early and miss the traffic. This is one of the reasons we may change to Saturdays.

Greg took 1st in hunter scoring 44 out of 58. Shooting a Marauder with a custom stock. Tom finishing 2nd in hunter with a of 35 I hope Greg and Pat had a good time even though the match did not go as smooth as in past.

Field Target trail to targets

We had a first, Steve P comes by the store on and off but never to a match. Well not only did he show up, he is our first Pistol field target shooter!! We put pistol on our score cards because in the start of the season a lot of the members went out and picked up pistols for pistol field target but they decided to stick with their rifles. Hopefully he will start a movement of pistol shooters coming down and giving it a try. Steve took 1st in pistol with 42 face plate hits and 18 knock downs a total of 60. That is some good shooting hitting 16 far targets and 4 being knock downs, with a red dot. Tony took Piston with 50 out of 58 no news there (sorry Tony)the real news was Veronica took 2nd 47 over Hector's 44 out of 58 taking 3rd. Great shooting Veronica! I would like to Thank

Hector and Veronica for taking a newbee Ricardo (top right) under their wing and showing him the ropes. This was his first match, he has been reading up on field target but it is not the same as shooting it. It is shooters like Veronica, Hector, Ray, Lurie and Hans that make this sport great and keep growing. Ricardo said he had a fantastic time and will try to make the next one his drive is about 1 1/2 no traffic 3 hours with from Manhattan NY. But I think a new shooter was born this day and that is what it is all about. Henry (below right) took 2nd in PCP with 50 out of 58. Henry did not shoot field target last year, rifle silhouette was his game lets just say his score in field target is

right there. Henry brought a friend Marcello with him another newbee to our sport his rifle of choice was an HW77 and shot piston he seemed to have a good time. Another shooter I was unable to talk to. Well we have to wait an see If he is at our next match.

LIFT added standing class and Rod took 1st with a 23 shooting a Webley Longbow. Vincent
(below far left) took 2nd with 15 shooting a FWB 124. We were missing Kenny and Joe I do think this class will get interesting.

I might try it myself with my Theopen Crusader. I sent it out with Jan Kraner. Jan and Rod stopped by Cobra with Rod's Crusader after shooting down at the range. Jan had

Long Island Field Target NY

just tuned it and did a little stock work with the tune he add a little psi to the gas ram, it was shooting just over 900 fps with a light 20 caliber pellet and the trigger was sooo nice. We will see

John (above left) tied for 1st with Hans in PCP class shooting 52 out of 58 even though one of his seals in his rifle was cracked. He replaced it with the closest one he could find but that changed the fps and all his scope settings for clicking and with the nationals coming up he did not want to play with the settings and will just try to get a new seal after the match.

  Joe M
(top right) shot a 33 he is finding that shooting in a harness is not working out being a retired fireman his back can't get into that position any more. Having a steam fitter's back ground I know where he's coming from. The next match he is going to try hunter. Watch out hunter Class big Joe is a is on his way!!

Hans tied John for 1st with a 52 out of 58 they should of had a shoot off. I think it is my fault! it takes to long to get scores down and who placed where and in what class this is not my strong suit. Thank god for Laurie she did the Crosman's North East Regional Field Target scores, LIFT's was a snap for her. But this is after I spent some time procrastinating over getting it done. Ray tells me he has a sheet that will make it faster and easier to tally the score and leave more time for shoot offs. I do think they are important and fun besides I may have took a win from Hans. I did ask and and no one replied but from now on it will not be a request and there will be a shot off.
(well still learning and growing)

Speaking of learning Tom H. (above shooting) had a good day taking 2nd in WFCF 12 ft/lbs class with 43 out 58 he finely got his Steyr back form Hector it had a problem with the barrel so they changed it out with a Lothar Walther barrel.

Tom is also making some changes to his scope he thinks he is almost where he wants to be. Tom feels confident he will be ready for the nationals with his Steyr.

Fist in WFCF 12 ft/lbs class was Ray (right) shooting a 55 out of 58 and over all best score for the match. LIFT also added 12ft/lbs Field Target class for the same reason we added standing along with Ray suggesting it. Having these classes spreads the herd out a little bit but more options for the members I think it will work out

   Bartek
(below left) tried 12 ft/lbs shooting a Air Arms EV2 but decided to go back to Field Target 20 ft/lbs class. He picked up a Steyr and has been happy ever since shooting 49 out of 58 not his top score but he had a good time he will be at the nationals.

I know some of these pictures look the same but they are not, some of our members wear the same clothes.

 Photobucket

I had to ask them and their answer was it is just what their most comfortable in when their shooting field target. I think it's about luck, well the A-Team wears white!! so who am I to question it. Bartek and Tony are two of our top shooters so what ever works for them I hope they stick with it.

Bartek shooting Field Targets

This match we went with two shooters per squad and the match went a lot faster. But I was talking to Ray about it and what happens is while your partner is shooting there is no one to talk too. You don't want to talk to some one while they are shooting and when you are shooting your partner is not going to talk to you. So there is a lot of quiet time and less comrodery during the shoot. We will have think about this one please post an opinion on the green.

Mike was able to make it for the site in time and get a little shooting in but was not able to shoot the match. Mike
(below left) lives in Queens and is looking for house out in eastern Long Island and had some

appointments to make. We have a few Mikes in our club so we call him Queens Mike it's going to be interesting to see what his name will change to Shirley Mike? Ha Ha. Mike did stay for a while you could see it was killing him to just watch and not to be shooting field target.

Mike M putting away his field target rifle  John and A-Team looking for o-ring for field target rifle
After the match John, Ray and Hans were digging through the A-Teams box of goodies looking for an o-ring for Johns Theopen. I am not sure if they found one but if any one has one please let John know. Alan Zasadny is fresh out, John is a little nerves with the nationals coming up!!

One more thing that needs work is our site in range in the begging I was not aware that site in needs to be done in the position that you will shoot the match in. If you look at the picture at the top of the page you can see the benches we used for sight in last year. Since the airgun range area is now open to the public we can not move them.

Some members put out blocks so everyone can see what yards the targets are at and we do not have to remeasure them for every match. This a great idea but they are to close to the benches so there was no real room to fit a full line of shooters.

Also the MTM targets were good in the beginning but they have to go something

Public airgun shooting range in Brookhaven NY
small and easy to put up so we can double the amount of targets. It's all in the journey we have one more matchs left for 2010. We have a lot of plans for 2011 I think we are getting the hang of it
Public airgun shooting range in Brookhaven NY

One thing I always forget to mention is in the beginning Cobra Airguns set up an airgun only range. This is where our members sight in and practice.

The airgun only range is now open to the public for anyone to shoot from 10-150 yards It is not open when the club has a match but it is a great place to go and shoot it is self govern so you have to call your own cold line. It is a great place to meet other airgunners and father and son fun give it a shot
