When looking for a fixed barrel air rifle it's tempting to start with the high dollar brands like Beeman or Diana; Gamo may not even be on your list. If value is important to you than the Gamo CFX should be. It's easy to think of Gamo as a new company as Gamo USA only started operations in 1995. The parent company in Spain started in 1889 producing high quality lead. They have been making air guns for nearly 50 years and have introduced many innovative products.

The CFX is the least expensive precision fixed barrel adult air rifle I know of. So what is the advantage of a fixed barrel? Because the barrel doesn't move relative to the receiver the all important relationship between barrel and sights never change or move.

With break barrel rifles the barrel moves with the cocking stroke and relies on precision fitting to return to the exact same position shot after shot.

Gamo Air Guns CFX Air Riflebreak barrel The open sights on most break barrel air rifles are attached to the barrel to avoid this problem. Scope mounts are in general attached to the receiver and depend on the barrel returning to exactly the same fitment shot after shot.

Fixing the position between the barrel and the receiver avoids this critical mechanical alignment. Modern
target rifle designers select fixed barrels for this very reason. So the question is did this work?

Yes! Accuracy is very good and here are two targets shot at 20 yards.

One with Beeman H&N match pellets and the second with Crosman Premier Light pellets.

Both were shot hand held from the bench rest. What is amazing is these targets were shot without adjusting the sights when changing pellets!

The CFX was accurate with many pellets and you should have little trouble finding one that suits your need.
The targets were engaged while sighted with a I used a Bushnell 4x12x40 AO: Matte Finish Banner Dusk & Dawn®

This is a relatively inexpensive rifle but it still deserves good glass.
I
would Budget about half its cost into an air rifle rated scope with rings.

The shooting cycle is smooth with almost no perceived recoil. The factory open sights are tru glo equipped and feature micro click adjustability. The front being covered with a perforated guard that protects the fiber optic element.

The stock and muzzle break is made of a heavy duty grade of plastic. It is well finished, nicely shaped and has textured areas for a sure grip. The stock is also adult sized. Weather or not you like plastic stocks they work well in the rain.

Loading the CFX is accomplished by first cocking the rifle by releasing the cocking lever at the muzzle break and pulling it back till you hear and or feel the sear engage. Lever action is smooth and fairly light.

Gamo Air Guns CFX Air Rifle Pellet gun Reviews loading port Slide open the rotary loading port and then slip a pellet front first down the ramp into the breech. If you do not insert the pellet completely the loading port will distort the pellet upon closing. This loading area is a bit small for those with large fingers. I found it a little slow loading. Slide the lever to the
right and you are ready.

The safety is located in the front of the trigger guard directly in front of the trigger. In the picture it's shown in the fire position. In the safe position it partially blocks the trigger blade. It works and its best feature is you can re apply the safety without re cocking the rifle. The trigger is the weak link here.

I had no trouble shooting respectable groups. But it has a long mushy travel, its pull is heavy and the trigger blade itself seems too short! As it's pulled rearward it pivots into the stock leaving your finger in the process. There is a cure for this in the form of an aftermarket replacement. I haven't reviewed that part so I can only say that I have heard encouraging things about it.

In the real world the printed velocity ratings on the top of the receiver are just not true. Every different pellet will give a different velocity, pellets of different design will be different even at the same weight. Even the PBA pellet that Gamo sells will not go 1200 fps. Unless maybe they are shooting into a laboratory created vacuum thereby eliminating all aerodynamic drag. And in my opinion any pellet going tremendously over 900 fps (about optimal speed for power and accuracy) is not going to be very accurate.
